Batlan

Wherever there is someone in need of a cook . . .

Wherever there is a sister to hide behind . . .

Wherever there is a game to be played . . .

Wherever there is a smile to be smiled . . .

I AM THERE.

Who am I? I'm Batlan!

Haircuts

Ainsley and Kaylee have been growing out their hair for quite awhile. Kaylee has been trying to grow Rapunzel hair, and Ainsley decided to give longer hair a try. It didn't last. As the weather has started to warm and spring is in the air, they both decided long hair was too hot. When the girls went in for a trim the other day they both chose to go short. I think they look great in short hair!

Our Big Six Year Old

On February 23rd Kaylee received a phone call from my mom. She was informed that there was a surprise waiting for her at the front door. Thinking it was a birthday package Kaylee went racing for the door. She found Grandma with a bow tied around her neck. My mom had flown out from California to surprise Kaylee on her birthday. The next day Kaylee turned six.

Kaylee's birthday was filled with presents, cake, and fun. Ainsley decorated the cake this year with a little help from my mom. She did a great job considering that the cake cracked right down the middle when I put the layers together (I totally redeemed myself with the next cake though).

That Friday Kaylee had a Rock and Roll birthday party with some of her friends. They came dressed as rock stars, and upon arrival we tattooed them and sprayed their hair pink and blue (with parent permission of course).

They made guitars and tambourines, played a few games like rock, rock, star (duck, duck, goose), musical stars and pass the microphone, danced in the dark with glow sticks, ate pizza and cake, and had a great time.

I had a lot of fun putting the party together. We didn't spend very much, and it turned out being tons of fun. Oh yeah, and then there was the cake. So I've never bragged about a cake I've made, but this one turned out pretty awesome.

See I told you I redeemed myself.

Happy Birthday Kaylee you great big six year old! You make our home a happy place. We love you!

A Snowy Day

We finally received some snow in February! This winter has been super cold; especially after last year's very mild winter. I've always thought I'd prefer to live somewhere colder, but after this year I'll take the Texas heat thank you (yeah, I know I'll be singing a different tune come July).

Kaylee was home sick the day it snowed. It's amazing what a few snowflakes can do for a little girl's health.

Ainsley went to school like the good student she is (I know, I should have let her stay home to play, but she'd just missed school a few days earlier due to an illness). Fortunately there was still enough snow for a snack, a couple of small snowmen, and a snowball fight with our neighbor after school.

It was definitely cold enough for some hot chocolate after the snow play. We're so unprepared for cold weather. My kids all started getting frost bitten hands because all they had for hand protection were cheap knit gloves, but despite a few tears shed over cold hands we all enjoyed our snowy day.

Handy Lanny

Landon has always been very interested in figuring out how things work. He loves tools and is always "fixing" his bike, so it was a big thrill for him when he got to help Chris install a new kitchen faucet and a new set of wipers on the Saturn.
