Back to School for Real

Kaylee and Landon started in person school on August 17th and 18th (they attend different schools). It had been almost a year and a half since they'd been to school in person. Everyone was a little on edge about getting adjusted to regular learning again, but so far it's gone really well. Landon has found his people at his new school, and Kaylee is tolerating her school, which is about all we can ask for from the girl who hates school.

Kaylee is finally a senior this year. After years of enduring the monotony of school she is counting down the days to graduation. I actually made a paper chain for her with 175 "inspirational" (but actually funny) quotes, thoughts, advice, and jokes to help her get through this year. It's a chain link for every day she has left of school. Even though school has tainted the cute little girl who skipped off to Kindergarten ready to learn, she still has the same sweet smile and has at least learned some life lessons throughout her journey. I personally think she's learned a thing or two academically, and I also think her response would be that she could have taught herself, which is probably true. She's still deciding where she wants to go for college and what she wants to become. Wherever it will be and whatever she chooses to do, I know she will do great things.

Landon is a Sophomore this year and isn't much into taking photos right now. I was able to get one semi-decent picture of him which will have to do this time around. He has settled into his high school and college courses and is happy he's with a group of students he feels he can relate to quite well.

We're still dealing with Covid and mask wearing and social distancing are still a thing. But, despite Covid continuing to try to ruin everything, school days seem to be functioning pretty normally and having Kaylee and Landon head back to in person learning has definitely been for the best. Even though they didn't love the prospect of returning to school, I can tell they are happier than they were just being at home all of the time.
