We're thinking it has something to do with her teacher so I'm going to have to keep a close eye on that one. She just started the fall soccer season and is excited to be playing on the same team as her friend Isabel. She sure is growing up fast!

I can't say that I don't agree with her but I'm really not looking forward to that battle. I'll leave that one to Chris. Hehehe. Kaylee has recently decided to be an astronaut when she grows up and our house is currently filled with many space themed library books.

Landon is Landon. What more can I say? Yes, his favorite color really is pink. No, I didn't prompt him on any of his answers. There were a few I had to explain in two year old terms but other than that he came up with his answers entirely on his own. My favorite is that he wants to be purple when he grows up. Keep dreaming big Landon!

And the Color is . . .

Garden Mist green! When we got home from California, Kaylee arrived to a room that had been painted a beautiful shade of green. She actually did an excellent job picking out a hue that goes really well with her quilt. She's always loved the color green (just like her daddy) so I should have known that's what she'd pick - I did put green in her quilt after all.

Ainsley's Crush

Ainsley and Kaylee love Star Wars. While we were in California they often played Lego Star Wars on the Wii and you could always hear them playing some version of a Star Wars game while they were taking baths together in the evenings. Since we've been home they've been playing Star Wars with their Barbies and their friends.

Yesterday the girls decided to watch one of the Star Wars movies. Ainsley had already seen them all but Kaylee hadn't watched any of them. I decided "Episode I" was one of the tamest of the six movies and let them watch it. I kept hearing, "Hey! I remember this part from Lego Star Wars!" Kaylee also kept mentioning how weird it was. I couldn't tell if it was a good weird or a bad weird so I kept telling her she didn't have to watch it if she didn't like it. I guess it was a good weird because she insisted that she wanted to keep watching it.

Later, Ainsley commented to me that she thought Anakin Skywalker was cute. At first it sounded more like a motherly, "oh he's so cute!" but then I realized it was a crush. So there you have it, my daughter has a crush on Darth Vader. He is pretty cute though, don't you think?

On a side note, this wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention that I had a crush on Anakin's son back in the day. Yep, Luke Skywalker! I guess us Yarbrough girls have a thing for those Skywalker boys!

Landon is Two!

On July 30th we celebrated Landon's second birthday. He was very excited and had been talking about his birthday quite frequently prior to the big event. He chose Thomas the Tank Engine as his theme (of course) and we celebrated a wonderfully Thomas day.

Before Chris left for work we let Landon open his first present. It was a Musical Caboose from Grandma and Grandpa Yarbrough that plays the Thomas theme song. We've been listening to it ever since. Fortunately it really doesn't get irritating. That morning we played with trains and decorated Landon's Thomas cake.

Grandma took us to Olive Garden for a birthday lunch and then it was time for the birthday nap. Calling it a birthday nap didn't make him want to take a nap any more than usual.

After his nap we built a giant train track and played until Chris got home from work with pizza in hand - Landon had been requesting birthday pizza for days.

Once everyone was sufficiently full we moved on to presents. Landon received trains, trains, and more trains. It was a Thomas birthday after all. He loved opening his presents and he had a great time opening the cards everyone sent to him. A few of the cards had money in them and every time he opened one he'd shout, "money!", jump off the couch, and run into his room to stuff it in his piggy bank. It was cute.

Once the presents were opened we moved on to cake. Landon tried so hard to blow out his candles but when the candles had melted halfway, we decided it was time to help out the little guy.

By the time we were finished eating cake and ice cream it was pretty late. We got the kids ready for bed and tried to get them to clean up. Grandma and Grandpa Gadd gave Landon a couple of adorable Thomas sets that he absolutely loved. He played with them all day and became quite angry with us when we told him to clean up at bedtime. He kept putting Boulder Mountain away and pulling it out again. It was pretty funny until he started getting a little nasty. Okay, so even then it was still funny. We just had to pretend it wasn't. You know, laughing when he's not looking. At the end of the day, Landon just couldn't bring himself to clean up his new trains and played until he was carried off to bed.

We were so happy that Grandma Yarbrough could be there to celebrate with us. It was a fun day. It's hard to believe that my baby is now a little boy. He's growing up so fast. I'm still trying really hard to enjoy the little moments because I know that a few years from now this is all going to seem like the blink of an eye.

Goodbye California Family

Chris' mom went home yesterday, which officially ended summer vacation with our California family. We were sad to see it end but it was great fun while it lasted.

One thing we did with Chris' mom was visit the Texas Natural Science Center on the UT campus. We've been there multiple times and the kids always love it. Kaylee loved all of the stones and gems that were on display. The girls wanted to know if their birthstones were among the collection. I had no idea what their birthstones were! After debating what they could be, we finally figured it out at the end of our trip. In the gift shop were rings with birthstones. We learned that Ainsley's is garnet and Kaylee's is amethyst. Kaylee was delighted that amethyst was on display in the museum and had me take a picture of her next to her birthstone. After the museum we went to Hula Hut for dinner. Hula Hut has definitely turned into a place we go to with our out of town guests so if you ever want to try Hula Hut come and stay with us. We love visitors!
