Landon has been scouting since he was eight years old. His goal from day one was to become an Eagle Scout. Over the last year or so we didn't know if he would actually complete this tough task. With our church pulling out of scouting and a lot of the boys in his troop deciding not to continue, his own desire to stay involved with the scouting program began to fizzle. We told him it was his choice but that if he started his Eagle Scout project, he had to finish it. He decided to join a new troop and begin his project. He met with the Round Rock Area Serving Center, decided what he was going to do for them, and then Covid happened. Everything shut down and he hit another wall.
A few months into Covid we decided it was time to make a decision. Find a new project or drop out of scouts. He didn't have much desire to continue but decided he would regret it if he didn't. He planned a new more Covid friendly project and began the long process of getting his project approved. It took awhile but after a few months he received approval and began to move forward with collecting food and plastic bags for the Round Rock Area Serving Center. After several weeks he completed his collection, brought the items to the serving center, and with a few helpers, sorted what he brought plus some other items that needed sorting. When all was said and done, he collected over 600 pounds of food, over 1000 plastic bags, and clocked in around 60 hours of service.
On December 20, 2020 Landon accomplished the goal he set as an eight year old and became an Eagle Scout. Because Covid pretty much ruins everything, he wasn't able to have a Court of Honor so once his award was ready, I picked it up from the scouting center and we had a family celebration. Tin foil dinners over a campfire, a Zoom presentation with family members, and crescent rolls cooked over the fire which were then filled with chocolate and whipped cream for dessert. Yum.
Congratulations Landon! We are so proud of your accomplishment!
