We have now been dealing with the Covid Pandemic for almost three months. Landon's and Kaylee's last day of school was Thursday, and we joined a drive thru parade so they could wave goodbye to their teachers. They survived 9 weeks of online homeschooling. That was it for Landon as he has decided to attend another school for high school (Early College High School).
A couple of weeks ago we found out that because Kaylee took her drive test through a third party, we could send in Kaylee's driver's ed records and DPS would send her a license. We assumed correctly that they would use the photo from her permit. So, she received her license in a very nontraditional way but is now a licensed driver.
Texas has slowly started to open up again with rules about limited capacity. I have heard that there has been an uptick in Covid cases here, but I suppose that is to be expected. Things are different. We are still being told to practice social distancing. Wearing masks is optional but encouraged, although some places like Costco won't let you in without a mask. A lot of businesses are curbside pick up only, and others seem to be operating pretty normally. We don't know what school will look like in the fall, but I would imagine it will be different if they even bring the students back. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to do a lengthy lung function test and have to get Covid tested 48 hours before the test since I won't be able to wear a mask.
Chris' company has decided they won't be bringing anyone back to the office until at least September, so he is working from home for another several months. Summer is going to be different this year. With Chris working from home, people being cautious about getting together, and not knowing whether or not we are going to be able to travel, we are going to have to get creative. This situation is definitely wearing on Landon and Kaylee, and I worry about their mental health.
The rec center has reopened with limited capacity but not Baca. My clients aren't ready to start personal training again, so I am still teaching and enjoying my online barre class.
Ainsley moved into her apartment on May 4th and is about halfway through spring term. She just started a job at Brick Oven and finished her training to be a server on Saturday. So far she likes the job, and it seems like it will be a good fit for her. We have heard rumor of what BYU is planning for the fall, but she won't have official information until July. It's a stressful situation for her.
That's about it right now. When the kids struggle, I ask them if there is anything I can do to help make this crisis a little easier. Kaylee decided we needed a themed dinner (there will be an entire post devoted to this as it has become a big deal), and Landon wanted to play Risk. Risk is probably my least favorite game ever, but we played. We found a new park that had a beautiful walking trail, and we will be taking the stand up paddle boards out soon. We still feel very blessed, and even though this is hard, I try to remember just how blessed we have been and are.
