Crafting

With such hot weather during the summer, we've adapted to spending our days inside for the most part. Having grown up in California, it's weird staying inside through the summer, but Texas' mild winters can be spent doing outdoorsy stuff. We are really looking forward to spending a few of our July weeks in California though! Here are some of the crafts the kids have been working on birdhouses, puppets, foamy creations, and sewing.

Ainsley was given cute Hello Kitty sewing machine for Christmas. We haven't had a lot of time to work on projects yet but she decided she wanted to quilt a blanket for her doll. I helped her cut the squares and she has already sewn the strips together completely on her own! I was sure she'd ask for a ton of help but I guess my little girl is growing up. It's bittersweet.

What a cute little sewing machine! Can't wait until Cailin needs one. Love the puppets, how did you guys make 'em?

I found a kit for the puppets at JoAnns. It was in the summer kids craft section. It came with four puppets, and each of them were individually packaged with all their parts including string and a big plastic needle to sew it. I let the kids sew them and arrange the parts how they wanted, and then I hot glued the pieces on. They turned out so cute, and I know I spent less than $5.00 on the kit. It seems like they were originally $5 and I got them for 40% off. I'm pretty sure they're 50% off right now.

Hey Christa (sorry if I spelled your name wrong). Your family is so cute! I wanted to know how well Ainsley's sewing machine works? Megan had gotten one from her Grandma Patten, but it didn't work well at all! So of course we had to take it back and get her something else. I would love to get her one that actually works.

Hey Kristal,

So far it works great. It's very basic, but it's just what a girl that age needs. We were going to get her one that was a little less expensive, but I read some reviews and the cheaper ones were just that, cheap. There are two different Hello Kitty sewing machines. Ainsley's is the least expensive of the two. Target did have the more expensive one on clearance a little while ago. I'm not sure if they still do, but it might be worth looking into. Anyway, I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
