Chris and I have set aside Friday nights as our designated date nights. I can't remember the last time we actually went out on a date but we always plan to spend time together after the kids have gone to bed. Usually it's takeout, a movie on the couch, and a pint of Ben and Jerry's. Since the kids still need to eat even though they aren't eating with us, I created "Mommy's Cafe."
Tonight was a Mommy's Cafe night. I created a menu that I keep in a Word document to use as a template. In the menu is a picture to color and a list of simple foods the kids can choose from. The coloring picture changes accordingly (tonight's picture was a fall theme) and the menu items are adjusted to whatever we have on hand. If they all want to order something different they get to. Sometimes dessert is included, sometimes it isn't. Tonight it wasn't because they'd already had a treat earlier.
The girls absolutely love being able to treat me like a waitress and "order" their food. They're both very polite customers. Landon doesn't quite get the full idea of Mommy's Cafe yet but he does enjoy the coloring and picking out his own dinner.
Tonight Kaylee ate a hot dog (with ketchup and without the bun), frozen corn, grapes, and lemonade. Ainsley chose Ramen and Goldfish, watermelon, frozen corn, and lemonade. Landon had mac and cheese, watermelon, frozen corn, grapes, and lemonade. They all scarfed down their meals of course - if only they'd be like that during a normal dinner, haha.

That is such a cute idea! I might have to steal that one from you. Keep being creative and then I can steal all of your really good ideas. Thanks for making life easier on me. After all...what are cousins for? Love Ya!
You are such a cute and creative mommy!! Stuff like this is what your children are going to remember when they look back on childhood!! :) What a great idea!!! I love the combination of foods they ate; something not on a typical menu! He he! So fun!
I love it! And you said you weren't supermommy ;) That is such a fun idea. I'm definitely going to steal this one. And it's so cute that Ainsley tips you almost as much as the cost of the meal! Too bad it's not real money, you could make a killing! What lucky kids to have such a fun mommy.
This is a great idea! What fun. Seems like a great way for them to actually eat their dinner!
Christa, that is such a darling idea!!! I am totally going to steal that from you, I'm sure that my kids are going to stiff me on a tip though! I really think that you are such a good mommy, I wish I put as much time toward creative ideas as you do! Way to go! BTW, I left a comment on your blog telling you that I have a blog and that I am listing yours on my faves list! Talk to you soon! Love, Britt
Christa, email me so that I have your address, just email me at brittjae@hotmail.com when you get the chance! Aaron surprised me with this trip for my birthday, he told me Thursday and I left Friday morning. He took off work so that he could hang out with the kids, got Heather and I tickets to Wicked, and really just made it so that I got a break. I am just here until Monday. I miss my kids! Anyways, I'll talk to you soon! Brittney
I love the frozen corn idea....how did that come about? What a fun night! Love, Aunt Deb
I'd heard of people eating frozen grapes and I thought why not frozen corn? The frozen corn was an attempt at getting my kids to eat anything slightly resembling a vegetable, and it worked :-)
Hey Christa! I blog stalked into you, I hope that is okay! I LOVE the mommy's cafe idea! What a cute way to spend time with the kids, find out some of their ever-changing favorites and have a simple cooking night! So creative. I am going to add you to my list of people I check in on if that is okay! I miss having you guys in the ward! Talk to ya later!
I love all of your creative ideas!! Can I steal this one too? I'm totally going to try the frozen corn thing. You're such a fun mommy!! Keep posting your fun and creative ideas- to keep inspiring us less creative (idea stealing:) mommies!
