Catching Up

It's hard to believe we're already a couple of weeks into our summer break. I can already see this summer slipping away. We just got back from exploring the Texas coastline for the first time, but before I write about that I have some catching up to do.

In April Kaylee tested for and received her orange belt.

The day before Easter we dyed eggs and broke cascarones over each other's heads. Kaylee had been talking about her interest in cascarones (I think she'd heard about them from her Spanish teacher), so I decided to purchase a carton for the kids. They may or may not become a tradition. The kids had fun for the most part, but there were a few minor injuries from pounding on each other too roughly.

For Mother's Day sweet Kaylee purchased and decorated a cake for me at school.

At the end of May our butterfly garden was blooming. We found a Black Swallowtail caterpillar and decided to raise it in the house. Kaylee named her Dillon because she was eating our Dill plant. We now have three new baby caterpillars, and Kaylee wants to bring them all inside. We have a nest in our apple tree with some baby birds in it, and she's worried the mom is going to feed the caterpillars to her babies. We may have to invest in a butterfly habitat

School let out for the summer at the beginning of June. We were all extremely happy. The end of this year dragged on FOREVER! All three kiddos made "A" Honor Roll, and Landon's teacher gave him an award for always finishing his assignments on time and keeping everyone on task. It was pretty funny, when she read what the award was for, the entire class (not even exaggerating) proclaimed, "that one is for Landon!" before she even called him up.

A couple days after school was out Landon waltzed up to me with a tooth in his hand. He told me "it just fell out". I've never heard of a tooth "just falling out". Maybe it's because the minute Kaylee gets a loose tooth she pries it out as quickly as possible because she hates the feeling of a loose tooth. It's been awhile since Ainsley lost her last baby tooth, so I don't really remember how she handled loose teeth. Seems like there was always a lot of wiggling involved though.

We're still having a terrible drought. I think we're into year four or five, but we have been getting a bit more rain lately. The kids took advantage of a rainy morning last week. Just a little bit of rain greens up the lawn so quickly! And, that's about it for now!

Looks like a lot of fun! We keep on meaning to get back to the Austin area now that Nora is a better vacationer (doesn't sleep all day) but you are probably headed to California soon! If that's the case, we'll have to plan a time when you get back :)
