The Aquabats!

Back in the day Chris and I were big fans of the Aquabats. We actually met at an Aquabats concert. My brother takes credit for us meeting because my ticket to that show was a birthday present from him. I was there with John and our friend Dan. Chris was there with my friend Katie and a few of their friends. The short story is, we met, we dated, we got married. But, the long version is a better story.

Chris thought Dan was my boyfriend, so he didn't even bother. Dan wasn't my boyfriend. After the concert I mentioned to Katie that I thought Chris was pretty good looking and figured that was the end of that conversation. It was just kind of a random, "Oh by the way, your friend Chris is pretty good looking". Little did I know Katie was going to tell her friend Carmen who told her boyfriend who was friends with Chris. It went back down the chain that Chris wanted me to call him. It went back up the chain that there was no way I was calling him. If he wanted to get to know me he had to make the first move. He did, and while we were dating he sent this postcard. See, we really liked the Aquabats.

Fast forward 16 years and suddenly we hear the Aquabats are going on their 20th anniversary tour and they'll be playing in San Francisco while we're out there visiting our family. John bought the tickets (again), and I busted out all of our old Aquabats CD's.

In July Landon, Kaylee, John and I (Ainsley has decided concerts are too loud and Chris was still in Texas) went to see the Aquabats! It was way fun!

Oh, and guess what? Our friend Dan was in town with his family as well. He came to the show with his wife and two of their kids. It was really nice to have him there. He got us up to the very front and helped me hold Landon off and on. Landon wasn't tall enough to see over the security barrier very well, so we kept him up for safety purposes. I was so sore by the end of the night, but it was totally worth it to see him so excited and happy. He loved the show! John was in charge of protecting Kaylee from the crowd. He did a great job, and she had a blast!

Turns out we weren't the only old timers bringing our kids. Before the very last song Landon got to go on stage with a few other kids and dance while they sang Pool Party. They had a bunch of beach balls during that song and every time the balls were hit on stage the kids threw them back into the crowd. Super rad!

If only Chris could have been there. Weirdly enough the Aquabats are coming to Austin in September. I didn't realize they left the west coast. I thought Utah was pretty much as far as they traveled. Guess not. I'm going to go with Chris to that show. I don't think the kids are coming this time, but we'll see . . .
