I Went on a Cruise!

A week or so into October a friend of mine and another friend of hers decided they were going on a cruise. They wanted to know If I wanted to come along. They had found an unbelievable deal for a five night cruise. The decision had to be made within 24 hours so as not to lose the deal. I decided to go, the tickets were purchased, and then I decided I was absolutely crazy for even considering taking this trip which would be happening during the second week of November. Too late. We went. It was awesome!

During that 24 hours of debating, Chris was encouraging me to go (he's like that). He would be able to take the time off from work. It was not a vacation he would enjoy all that much, but he knew I would love it. I did love it. The cruise itself was quite an experience. I went with three other ladies. We shared a tiny room that was reminiscent of a college dorm room. There was food all over the place, entertainment, relaxation, towel animals on our beds every night and no responsibilities whatsoever. Well, I guess I still had to shower, haha.

But, my favorite part of the whole trip was the two days we were on shore. Our first stop was Cozumel. It was beautiful. I've never seen bluer water. I want to live there. Chris says there are too many hurricanes. He's probably right.

In Cozumel, my friend Deb and I were planning on going snorkeling. The two other ladies with us (Janene and Teresa) decided to spend the day shopping. When it was time for snorkeling we found out our excursion had been cancelled. Apparently the water was too choppy. We were bummed. We decided to search for a beach. As we walked, a local came up to us with a book full of excursions. He told us he'd take us out on a glass bottom boat to go snorkeling at three different reefs. His company looked familiar. It was one of the companies I had looked at when deciding on a snorkeling adventure. We decided to go for it. Best decision of the day! The water was choppy, but swimming in the warm, deep, beautiful, Caribbean Sea was such an adventure!

The next day we docked in Progreso, Mexico. We were back in the Gulf of Mexico, so the water wasn't quite as pretty, but that didn't matter. We weren't spending the day at the beach. We were going to visit Mayan ruins (Dzibilchaltún). The four of us went together on this excursion. It was another excellent adventure. Not only were we allowed to climb the ruins at Dzibilchaltún but there was also a cenote (a deep sinkhole in limestone with a pool at the bottom) where we got to swim. When I found out it was 144 feet deep, I found a perfect rock to dive from and took the plunge. There were little fish in the cenote that would nibble the dead skin off your feet if you sat still long enough. Apparently this is popular when getting a pedicure in Japan. It was weird and slightly hilarious.

It was a great trip. Although, I would have loved to go with Chris, going with friends was a treat too. Maybe some day I'll be able to talk Chris into going to Cozumel with me. Maybe . . .
