A little bit of May and a lot of June

Right before school let out for the summer, Ainsley's choir teacher held an awards ceremony for her choir and theater students. The theme was Candyland. Along with the awards there was a costume contest for students and a candy bar. Ainsley and her friend dressed up as a Candyland game board.

Kaylee and Landon were sad to see their good friends Bri and Ethan move to Georgia in June. Ethan and Landon have been calling each other nonstop. They miss each other so much!

A week after school let out, Ainsley went to EFY at the University of North Texas. She didn't really want to go at first but Chris and I felt like it would be a great experience for her, so we kind of talked her into it. She was pretty nervous about being so far away from home for a week. I told her that by the end of the week she wouldn't want to come home. That's exactly what happened. She loved everything about EFY and can't wait to go again.

A week after EFY was Trek. I'll admit, I had a bad attitude about Trek at first and really didn't care if Ainsley went. It's so stinking hot in Texas during the summer, it's humid, there are nasty bugs and critters, and really what's the point?

Around the time we watched the movie 17 Miracles I started singing a different tune. It's about the Willie handcart company. Some of my pioneer ancestors were in that handcart company. There's even a picture of my great great great great grandma at the end of the movie. Her name was Eliza Gadd and she was one awesome lady. You should look her up sometime.

Anyway, Ainsley was going back and forth about whether or not she was going to attend Trek. We'd totally left it up to her, but suddenly I started hoping that she would choose to go. I don't know if it was watching the movie or what it was, but I started feeling like it would be a really good experience for her. The weekend before Trek she finally decided she was going to go. We had a Family Home Evening dedicated to pioneers that Monday and sent her off Tuesday morning. She was not excited. I pretty much worried about her the whole week and said a lot of prayers in her behalf while she was gone, and . . . she loved it! She came home tired, dirty, full of stories and happy. She loved her ma and pa. She loved her brothers and sisters. She loved learning how to square dance. She even loved pulling the handcart.

While Ainsley was off being a pioneer, Landon and Kaylee had their own adventures. Kaylee went to a week long church camp at a Baptist church with a couple of her friends. She went last year and loved it, so we sent her again this year. She had a great week. Landon's good friend Shane stayed with us while his parents were at Trek with Ainsley. Shane has two older sisters just like Landon, so those two were in heaven getting the chance to be brothers for a few days. They were both totally sad when it was over. The boys and I had lots of fun. We went for bike rides, played at a couple of parks, went canoeing and went swimming.

June went by so quickly! I'm kind of bummed that a month of summer is already gone. It was a good one. June was full of learning, growing, new experiences and much fun.
