On a day that John was able to work a half day, we decided to take a short road trip down Highway 1. Ainsley went to work with him that morning and the rest of us met up with them after lunch. Our goal was to not have a goal. We were going to drive to Half Moon Bay and head south on Highway 1. If we saw a beach we liked along the way we were going to stop.
Our first stop was Pescadero. My mom has been dealing with a foot issue that prevents her from walking too many steps in a day. It has been such a drag for her. Because she had a limited number of steps she and my dad hung back on the cliffs by the car. Ainsley decided she was feeling more artsy than adventurous, and the rest of us were ready to explore.
So, I have this fear of heights. I'm sure I've mentioned it before. It's really very irritating to me because I love a good adventure. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, it's just there. Little did I know, our rock climbing adventure at Pescadero was the beginning of possibly conquering my fear. It took me a while to build up the courage to scale the rocks, but I did! And, it actually wasn't even that bad.
Our next stop was Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Our family has stopped at Pigeon Point Lighthouse several times but for some reason we've never noticed the surrounding beach. Probably because it doesn't look like there is any access. This time we noticed a long stair case that went straight to a small beachy area. The water was so clear. John and I decided we need to bring along some snorkeling gear next time.
It seems that our family is incapable of taking group photos without a little silliness. We just can't help ourselves.
We spent loads of time collecting shells and finding sea anemones but eventually decided it was time to move on. Our next stop was a long stretch of beach (Big Basin State Beach) where there were tons of kite surfers. After watching them for a while we moved on to Shark Fin Cove. At least that's what we called it. Bet you can't guess why!
It was a neat little beach but really dirty. It looked like a place where people go to party at night and not clean up after themselves. Kind of sad.
Ainsley and my parents decided to go find a place to eat while we explored Shark Fin Cove. While we were there some guy asked us if we wanted him to take our picture. We said sure, and he grabbed John's phone. While taking the picture, my mom called. The guy says, "Mom is on the phone" and John tells him to answer it and tell her we'd call her back in a minute. The guy then proceeds to tell my mom he stole John's phone but quickly told her he was joking. My mom did not think it was funny. We thought it was kind of funny, haha.
Our last stop of the day was a picnic area overlooking the ocean. We grilled hot dogs and picnicked before heading home. I love the coast!
