Homecoming 2022

Another January homecoming has come and gone. Kaylee's high school experience has been anything but ordinary due to the Covid pandemic. Several of her activities this year will be her firsts and her lasts. She has participated in homecoming before, but this one will be her most memorable I think.

The festivities were actually supposed to take place a couple of weeks ago. Kaylee dressed like a biker one day and came home that very same day announcing homecoming had been postponed due to so many kids being out sick with Covid. Two weeks later homecoming began for real, weirdly with totally different themes than what were originally planned. There was Jersey Day, Twin Day, Western Wednesday, Dress for Success or Less (Kaylee chose less and wore my clothes, hahaha), and Gator Green and Orange. She made a senior mum and senior overalls for Gator Green and Orange.

On Friday the homecoming court was announced during a pep rally, and at the basketball game that evening the king and queen were crowned. Kaylee was actually nominated to be on the homecoming court. We were laughing all week because she hates school so much. She didn't get crowned, but Chris and I got to escort her onto the basketball court which was kind of fun. The pictures are blurry because we think that the camera handoff to Jackson caused a bump in the camera settings from automatic focus to manual focus. Whoops!

Saturday was the dance and Kaylee got to dress up all fancy. Jackson was so sweet. He brought her a flower, a corsage that matched her dress perfectly, and when she walked out in her pretty dress he looked completely stunned. They had a great time at the dance, stayed out late with their friends, and got to be normal teenagers in a time that has been anything but normal. I'm happy homecoming happened for Kaylee this year and didn't become another casualty of Covid.
