Hangin' Out in Cali Part II (Santa Cruz)

Going to the beach is a favorite of ours, so we go as often as possible when we're in CA. Usually we spend more time in Half Moon Bay, but this year it was Santa Cruz. This is probably going to look like a "Kaylee Goes to the Beach" story, so here's why. Kaylee is our little beach babe. Don't get me wrong, Ainsley and Landon love spending time near the ocean, but Kaylee could probably go every day and be happy as a clam. She's the one who races into the waves, rolls in the sand five seconds later and never complains that she's covered in beach from head to toe.

My mom and I were joking that we're all Type A personalities even when it comes to building sand castles. We kept marking spots that were off limits to foot traffic, and if anyone stepped where they shouldn't, someone was bound to go a little crazy. It's so nice having a family who understands each others quirks. At one point, Landon and I decided to take over my mom's unfinished fortress. He built an Octopus castle in the middle of her masterpiece while I dug tunnels from the outside in. We didn't get the reaction we expected though. She liked the addition to her castle. On a side note, Landon is insisting that I write Boom! Boom! Pow! as an expression for the overtaking of Mom's fortress.

Later that day, we met Grandma and Grandpa Yarbrough at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! So much fun!

I love the beach as much now as I did when I was a kid. I love the sand and building sand castles, I love the waves, I love the cold water lapping at my feet but most of all I love the fresh smell of the ocean breeze. I learned how to swim in Salt water thanks to my dad. He would be happy to know his love of the ocean has now been passed down to the fourth generation. Thanks for that dad, I'm not sure about the type A personality though!
