Roaring Camp Railroad and Santa Cruz
One of our outings started out with some upset but ended up turning out for the best. While Chris was still in California we decided to ride the train into Santa Cruz and spend the day at the boardwalk with my parents. Any of you who have driven 17 into Santa Cruz know the potential dangers of that highway. Unfortunately, on our way up there was a huge accident. The highway had to be shut down, and we sat for a long time not moving at all. By the time it reopened we'd missed the train into Santa Cruz and everyone was pretty cranky. When we arrived at Roaring Camp we decided to make the best of it and took a different train through the Santa Cruz mountains and giant redwood trees. Landon really enjoyed it. The girls not so much. It was pretty hot, and by the time we got back there was enough crankiness that we thought about calling it a day. Fortunately we didn't.
The girls convinced us they were just hot and hungry, and they'd be happier once we made it to the Boardwalk. We stopped for a late lunch then headed for the beach. After walking around for a bit we decided to see how pricey the rides were. By then it was close to 5:00pm. To our surprise we were there on a day where rides were only one ticket each (normally they range from 3-6 or more tickets) after 5:00pm. We also could purchase hot dogs and sodas for $.75 each. We were all pretty thrilled.

Looks like such fun! I haven't been to roaring camp in so long. We'll have to go next time we're in CA (who knows when that'll be!).
