We went to a few Halloween events this year, so the kids had a great time digging through their dress-up boxes and either modifying their costumes or coming up with completely different costumes. They did wear their originally planned costumes on Halloween night.
We are all about finding fun free things to do and Austin has a plethora of that kind of stuff. A lot of it is geared toward littler kids but we can still find some things that are fun for our older kiddos. One of the museums hosted a free Halloween event where they had Halloweenish science projects and crafts. Ainsley was excited because the "Girlstart" program was hosting some of the science labs - she joined her school's Girlstart after school program this year. She wore my old Indian costume and dressed as an Indian Princess. At our ward party we braided her hair and she went as Kaya (an American Girl doll). Kaylee was Captain Paws the pirate kitty. This character is of her own creation. A few people asked her if she was Puss in Boots. Not this spunky little kitty! Landon stayed true to his original costume and dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow. I wanted to put stubble on his face, but he told me he was a shaved Captain Jack.
On Halloween night our friends Elizabeth and Caleb joined us for dinner and trick-or-treating. My kids love Caleb. He's really sweet with Landon and Kaylee, and you'd think he and Ainsley were siblings if you heard them talk to each other. They're always picking on one another. It's pretty funny. Ainsley dressed as a witch, Kaylee was Ginny Weasley, and of course there was Captain Jack. I decided to dress up as a gypsy. I put a bunch of green and purple eye make-up on to complete the costume. Ainsley told me I looked scary. I'm still not sure if it's because she's not used to seeing me wear make-up, or if it's because I'm that bad at applying make-up. Probably a little of both, hahaha. Happy Halloween!

Cute! I totally remember that Indian costume. I think I even wore it one year! Also, the pictures with the orange sunset are so awesome!
If I could have one wish it would be that I was closer to my little ones--especially during the holidays! They are so creative and cute.
