Hangin' Out in Cali Part I (The Gadds)

As always, we had a wonderful time hanging out with our family in California. There were lots of outings, but we also had fun staying close to home. Ainsley worked for my parents so she could earn money to buy herself a tablet for school this year (it's required). Dad and I went on multiple bike rides along Niles Creek and finished it off with a 20 mile ride (round trip) to Coyote Hills. I enjoyed spending a couple of days with just Mom while the kids were elsewhere. On a day that Kaylee wasn't feeling well enough to go out for the day with Grandma and Grandpa Yarbrough, Grandpa Gadd took her to a paint your own pottery studio. We enjoyed all of these activities plus much more! Part I is dedicated to some of that "much more".

We had a fire pit one night, and one night only. Landon got into some trouble for playing in the fire and was not very compliant when asked to stop. When Grandpa said we wouldn't be able to have another fire if he couldn't be safe his response was, "I don't believe you Grandpa". That sealed his fate, no more fire pits this year. Little Stinker.

Dad and I took Landon and Kaylee to Coyote Hills one afternoon to go Geocaching. Ainsley decided to stay home and help Grandma with chores. The day was very windy, and the marshes were really stinky. Landon and Kaylee were repulsed by the smell but enjoyed their hike. Landon loves owls, so we had to make a pit stop at Hoot Hollow. I think he was a little disappointed that he didn't see any owls. After locating all of the caches we set out to find, we took one of the trails through some marshlands. Landon and Kaylee were grossed out by the mucky water. It was pretty nasty looking, but they still had smiles for pictures!

Mom and Dad held their yearly family BBQ, which now includes a birthday celebration for Landon. Lucky guy. We hung out with our extended family, and even though my kids don't have any cousins yet, they do have lots of little second cousins and a couple of third cousins. They got to hang out with a few of them at the barbecue.

The night before we headed back to Texas we played (for the second year in a row) our Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jelly Bean Game. The rules are simple. Spin the bottle. If it lands on you, you have to blindly choose a jelly bean. If you refuse to eat it, you're out of the game. John got it the worst this year with the bottle landing on him far more times than anyone else. Chris came in a close second for having to eat half a rotten egg jelly bean that had been on the floor. Let me tell you, if you've never tasted an every flavored bean you have no idea what kind of nastiness we've all tasted.  Ainsley didn't play this year. She wanted to take pictures, but I know it was because she didn't want to taste a dirt flavored jelly bean. I started as a spectator because I hadn't eaten sugar the whole trip. I wasn't going to ruin it with some nasty jelly bean, but it was too much fun not to play. My first taste of sugar in three weeks was a soap flavored jelly bean, and that wasn't even one of the bad ones. I love my family! I hate that we live 1,751 miles (oh yeah, I've mapped it) away from them, but at least we get to visit them every summer!

Chris looks like he bit down on one of those kill yourself capsules spies eat when they get caught and their in the last foaming at the mouth stage before they drop. But no, it's a rotten egg jelly belly. We should box and sell our hilarious game idea to the Jelly Belly people. I miss you...sigh!

Oh my goodness, you had me laughing so hard at your spin the bottle game! I'm gonna have to do that with my kids sometime. Those pictures were priceless!
